Do You Need a UK ETA?

The UK Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) is required for visa-exempt nationals who wish to visit the United Kingdom for short stays. Understanding your eligibility is the first step in planning your UK journey.

You Need an ETA If:

  • You are a national of a visa-exempt country
  • You plan to visit the UK for tourism, business, or short-term study
  • You are transiting through the UK
  • Your stay will be for 6 months or less
  • You do not currently hold a UK visa

You Don't Need an ETA If:

  • You are a British or Irish citizen
  • You hold a valid UK visa
  • You have UK settlement status or pre-settled status
  • You hold indefinite leave to remain or enter in the UK
  • You are from a country that requires a visa to enter the UK

Visa-Exempt Countries

Citizens from the following regions and countries typically need an ETA:

Americas

United States, Canada, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and others

Asia-Pacific

Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and others
